Dr. Kyser is the founder and Executive Director of Determine to Stand. She grew up in the foster system, but unlike the majority of foster kids, she was fortunate that she was placed in a loving foster home; where she would later be adopted.

Dr. Kyser had a vision of providing the supportive services, and advocacy needed by foster children. This lead to the creation of Determine to Stand.

A quarter of the 442,995 children in foster care are 14 or older and more than 15,000 young people age out of foster care at each year. The challenges facing older youth in foster are immense. The reality is older youth who have “aged out” of foster care have more barriers towards meaningful work than other 18-21 year old.

Oftentimes, this youth population is facing financial instability, generational poverty, and has little positive adult and/or peer relationships. Supporting older youth involves many components that include providing the most normal childhood experience possible through extracurricular activities, educational stability and opportunity, transitioning from foster care to independent living, and housing.

Youth face a range of developmental issues, and as teens approach adulthood, living independently becomes a significant goal. While youth with intact families may struggle to achieve self-reliance, youth in foster care face even more obstacles. We work to find improvements to the safety and success of children, families and the communities where they live. We provide direct services to children and families. Our approach is based on collaborating with those who are working to improve the safety and success of foster children and their families.

Providing delicious nutritious meals to our community’s most vulnerable citizens. Too many people living in poverty have a diet of processed foods and rarely get a hot, healthy meal. Together we can change that. We prepare and deliver hot meals every day to the Stop Six community in Fort Worth Texas.
